Drive for Thrive
The Thrive Centre supports those living with and beyond cancer and their support persons by expanding exercise oncology resources to support Quality of life in cancer survivorship.
Since its inaugural "Drive for Thrive" Tournament in 2015, over $450,000 has been raised to support the Thrive Centre operations. This wouldn't have been possible without the commitment of community sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Your support this year will help support the mission to hire qualified exercise professionals so they can build exercise as part of standard cancer care.
Thrive's exercise oncology programs, including ACE (Alberta Cancer Exercise) and EXCEL (EXercise for Cancer to Enhance Living Well), are tailored to meet the needs of each individual and enhance the quality of life for individuals undergoing treatment and beyond. Thrive is dedicated to collaborating with the healthcare system to sustainably implement these programs, ensuring that all individuals living with and beyond cancer can access exercise as a vital wellness resource. Steven's Story
Diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic cancer just nine days before his passing, Steven lived a life full of love and driven by passion until the very end. He was a loving father, husband, son and friend. Steven had a strong work ethic, lived with intention, and moved through life with quiet generosity and a firm foundation of faith. He loved travel, live music, a roaring fire, fast cars, good stories, and raising a glass with friends and family.
Steven remained hopeful until the end, and when asked at Christmas to describe himself in three words, he simply and powerfully said, “I am blessed.”
Following his passing, Steven’s wife (Carolyn), kids (Erik, Kendall, and Nolan), as well as many friends and family were looking for a way to ensure Steven’s legacy of generosity and his search for hope lived on. Steven was a member of the Hamptons Golf Club since 2015, and consistently used golf as a way to connect with clients, friends, and family. The Steven Torhjelm Memorial Tournament, in support of The Thrive Centre, will be a day full of golf, bright colours, food, music, and most importantly community in order to celebrate a life well lived, and a man well loved.
