Why the Thrive Centre?

This tournament and its impact on the Thrive Centre will provide a legacy of hope for those living with and beyond cancer, making a difference in the lives of many. The Torhjelm family has been connected to this organization for many years - both Steven and Carolyn golfed in the Drive for Thrive tournament, the family coordinated a fundraising concert with Tenille Townes that benefited Thrive, and their daughter Kendall is volunteering with the Thrive Centre and working in the Health and Wellness Lab as a practicum student in the final year of her Kinesiology degree.

Thrive offers life-changing exercise oncology programs that provide children and adults with the strength, support, and community they need while on their cancer journey. Research shows that tailored exercise programs can reduce treatment-related side effects, improve energy levels, and help individuals regain confidence and control over their health. Exercise also reduces risk of recurrence and improves survival!

From Steven's celebration of life and the amazing support of the family's incredible village, over $17,000 has already been raised. Supporting the Thrive Centre and the incredible work they do to make exercise oncology programs available will be the focus for all funds raised.

With the money raised at this year's Steven Torhjelm Memorial Drive for Thrive Tournament, we will fund a clinical exercise physiologist (CEP). The CEP has the scope of practice to work with the complex population of individuals with cancer, including those on treatment or with more advanced disease. CEPs also ensure the appropriate tailoring of exercise prescription is done, to increase safety and effectiveness. This critical position is thus needed to make exercise a reality for individuals living with and beyond cancer.
